Welshpool, situated in Powys, is located in Mid-Wales. There is much to see and do in Welshpool. One of the most popular attractions in town is Powis Castle. Once a fortress, today the castle is a manor house and is cared for by the National Trust. The in-house museum hosts an impressive collection of furniture, paintings and Indian treasures. There is also an extensive garden on the estate. The Offas Dyke Path is also popular with those who enjoy walking. The path follows the English-Welsh border and offers fabulous views of the local scenery.
The Welsh town of Welshpool is located within the Powys area and it is located about four miles from the English border. The town of Welshpool is located on the low-lying banks of the River Severn. This town was once part of England and at this time it was known as Pool. The town changed its name during 1835 when the town became part of Wales and this also enables it to be distinguished from the town of Poole within the County of Dorset.
The town of Welshpool has a population of about six thousand two hundred and sixty nine. The town features a vast amount of architecture that dates back to Georgian times and a lot of it is located north of the area where Powis Castle is located.
The economy within the town of Welshpool is primarily based around local industries and agriculture. The local livestock market that is known as Smithfield is actually one of the biggest in the whole of Europe. The industrial estates within the town are home to a vast array of different types of small-scale industries. The town of Welshpool is only a small town and therefore it does not attract a lot of the larger high street stores and due to this the local residents mainly go to Shrewsbury and Newton for their shopping.
The town of Welshpool has a strong educational work in the form of a local high school within the town that teaches pupils between the age of eleven and eighteen. This high school has some of the best GCSE results within the whole of Wales.
