The town of Burnley has three different tiers to the local government, which are the county council of Lancashire, a borough council of Burnley and also the parliament of the United Kingdom. The borough council of Burnley has been governed since 2008 and the Liberal Democrats did this.
Burnley is located within a valley, which is naturally three forked at the point where the River Calder and the River Brun meet each other. The town is surrounded by open fields and also some moor land that has been left to go wild.
There is a strong education network within the town and this consists of a grammar school for boys, which was first founded within St Peters Church during 1559. The first headmaster of the boy's school was a former priest and he was known as Gilbert Fairbank.
