The village of Bamburgh has a population of about four hundred and fifty four. The town of Bamburgh is best known for two reasons, which are Bamburgh Castle and also its very extensive sandy beach. Bamburgh Castle overlooks the beach and it was the seat of the former kings, which were part of Northumbria however it is now owned by the Armstrong family. The castle was also once associated with the Victorian heroine that was known as Grace Darling.
Bamburgh castle was the capital of the Brythonic Kingdom between 450AD and 547AD. During 547 the cast was taken over by the Angles who were invading the area and Ida who was the son of Eoppa led this raid.
The village of Bamburgh has many miles of unspoilt white sandy beaches and in fact the beach has been give recognition as being the fourth best beach in the whole of the United Kingdom. The village and the surrounding area is also home to a number of award winning food and accommodation establishments. The coastline of Bamburgh is open with vast seeping beaches, extensive sand dunes and rocky shores. The inland boundary wanders through the rich farmland and it has spectacular farm buildings with stone walls.
The coastal parish that is known as Bamburgh is located amongst the spectacular countryside, which is part of Northumberland and during the early part of the medieval times Northumberland stretched from the Forth to the Humber.
